Sailing Action Goes Into Full Swing

By Felix Tan Wei Xin & Alphonso Chan in Pattaya

The Singapore sailing team made a great start yesterday in their quest for SEA Games success, with Koh Seng Leong finishing top in his first two races at the Marina Ocean Yacht Club in Pattaya. Other sailors like Chung Pei Ming and Roy Tay also did well.

Fine Comeback

In race one, Seng Leong started awkwardly but managed to make a fine comeback. In race two, wind conditions helped him to pull away from the trailing pack. "I was close to the Malaysian sailor but the wind was good. I was slightly in front and I just pulled away," he said.

Young Ones

This year's team include an unprecedented number of debutants. Jonathan Russel Chew Wei Xiang and teammate Low Wen Chun (Hobie 16) made a good start to their campaign by finishing 2nd and 3rd in race one and race two respectively."I think we are in a good position," said Wen Chun.

Action Elsewhere

The duo of Chung Pei Ming and Roy Tay (470) finished top in their only race of the day. As for the team of Justin Tan, Justin Wong, Chong Jin Yuan and Wilbur Chan (Farr Platu 25), they clinched top spot for race one but dropped off their pace in race two, finishing third.

More Action

The women sailors also performed well. Elizabeth Tan and Dawn Liu (470) ended their race in second. Over in windsurfing, Joshua Choo (Mistral Youth) finished third in race one but moved up a notch to second in race two while Leonard Ong ended both races for the Mistral Light category in fourth place.
